To increase participation in high quality out of school hours learning
The Arches aim to increase the percentage of primary and secondary pupils,
particularly in Key Stages One and Four, attending out of school hours learning

called ‘Active Archie’ which is targeted at Key Stage One pupils. In addition to
this, linked to the DCMS Community Coach Scheme a number of coaches have been
employed to deliver
- Kung Foo
- Kick Boxing
- Yoga
- Street Dance
To increase participation in high quality informal activityEach family of schools have used a variety of projects that aim to increase the percentage of pupils’ participation in informal activities before school and at lunchtime. Lunchtime supervisors have been given training on how to use different equipment and to encourage pupils to participate in activities during their lunch break. There are a number of ‘Rise and Shine’ clubs running in primary schools where pupils’ participate in an activity for 5 minutes every morning. This has made a big impact on pupils’ attendance.
To increase participation in high quality competition and performanceAs a partnership, the Arches offer schools a structured season of competitions and performances. In addition to this each family runs their own programme which reflects local club opportunities.
Each year we hold The Arches Partnership Games. It is based on the Olympics where each school represent a country and the pupils have the opportunity to participate and compete in a number of different sports. 2,000 primary school children take part and the sports events are run by 150 secondary school pupils.
To improve attitude, behaviour and attendance in PE, sport and whole schoolMany projects are up and running in some of the schools to tackle the problem of pupil behaviour and attendance. The ‘Rise and Shine’ clubs is just one of the projects that is having a positive effect on pupils attendance.
To increase attainment and achievement in and through PE, out of school hours learning and sportThe Arches offer opportunities for young people to achieve; not only through competing but also through leadership and volunteering.
To increase participation in community based sport and improved quality of community lifeThe Arches are aiming to improve the links between schools and local sports clubs in order to provide the pupils with access and opportunity to participate in sport outside of school. This will lead into life long participation.
