"" Get Active with Archie! at schools throughout Sheffield
Have you been introduced to Archie?

Active Archie is a coaching programme for the Arches School Sport Partnership. It encourages children to learn through physical activity by developing basic movement and ball skills.

Three main aspects of Active Archie:
  • Archie Week - a lunchtime club
  • School Time Archie - support in P.E. lessons for teachers
  • After School Archie - after school club for Key Stage One children (5-7 year olds) and their families.
Who Is It For?

Active Archie is delivered in all of the schools in the Arches School Sport Partnership.

Active Archie is aimed at Key Stage One children (5-7 year olds).

Archie Week is a 30 minute lunchtime club, run for one week, for children who can benefit from spending more time enjoying P.E.

After School Archie encourages family members such as parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles, brothers, sisters and carers/guardians to stay after school and get involved.

How Does It Work?
Each school in the partnership has a half term block (6 weeks) of Active Archie. The Active Archie coaches use resources specially designed for young children by people and organisations in sport, such as: Val Sabin Action Kids; Val Sabin Positive Play; Kiwi Fundamentals; Kiwi Dex; and Multi-Skills Clubs cards.
The resources, together with colourful, innovative and exciting equipment ensure that the children want to take part. Plus, Active Archie is brought to life by the mascot, Archie.

What Are The Benefits?
Active Archie is delivered to the children in a fun environment through exciting activities. It supports their development and learning by:

  • Enhancing and developing language, numeracy and communication skills through interaction
  • Providing opportunities for play in small and large groups, or individually practising fundamental movement skills.

Targeted children are given extra support in P.E. and physical activities.
New ideas and activities are shared with teachers and teaching assistants.

Families are encouraged to attend After School Archie, which promotes family learning.
Simple but effective activities are delivered that can then be taken and practised at home.
