The 1st October 2015 brought the first of this academic year’s competition for schools within the Arches School Sport Partnership. Concord Sports Centre was brought to life with an invasion of over 350 primary school pupils ready and excited to take part in the Arches 5 aside football competition for both boy’s teams and girl’s teams.
25 male teams and 16 female teams from Year 5 and 6 were placed in groups and played a round robin format to get their final morning group places. Once these had been decided and after a short break, to catch their breath, schools were then reallocated to different groups for the afternoon. This meant that they could play a wide range of other schools from across the city and also play children of the same ability in the afternoon session.
The competition came to a finish with Marlcliffe Primary School winning the boy’s event and St Catherine’s Catholic Primary School becoming champions of the girl’s event. Many thanks to Sheffield International Venues for allowing us to host the event on their Kicks pitches and also to Firth Park Academy and Hinde House Secondary Phase for allowing their students time out of lessons to referee and help with the running of the day.
We are looking forward to next year’s event already
