20 Primary Schools from across the School Sport Partnership area, are this year taking part in the Arches Primary Sports Leadership Academy programme. The induction to this programme took place at Forge Valley School on 19th October 2015 and saw nearly all schools represented by a member of school staff, and the nominated young sports leaders from each school.
The programme looks at children becoming senior leaders within their school and assisting PE coordinators with specific duties and delivery. We have schools where pupils in upper KS2 take a very active role in delivering activities for a number of younger children and we want to replicate this and expand this across all schools within the Partnership.
The first task that children were set is to establish School Sports Crews in their school and to develop roles across school, which include media, reporting, researching, competition delivery and coaching. We will be keeping a close eye on who has delivered what within their school, throughout the year, and prizes will be given to individuals and groups of children who put lots of work in to support their school. The next training takes place in January where children will be trained to establish Change 4 Life clubs in their school and to ensure that these clubs continue to take place and are targeted at the correct pupils.
