Working in partnership with the Yorkshire Sport Foundation and Race 4 Life UK the Arches School Sport Partnership were able to this year provide an opportunity for over 90 Secondary School girls to compete in the Race 4 Life event held at Meadowhall on the 3rd July.
The idea behind this project was to target Secondary School girls and give them the opportunity to take part in a running club at their school. The clubs worked hard over an 8 week period, some before school and some after school to get the girls ready to run the 5K race. As well as this the club targeted a different audience as there was a huge fundraising element to taking part and getting stuck in.
Over the 8 weeks of Running clubs at their schools the girls improved their distances and times, with the goal at the end of the project for them to complete their first 5K run. Schools that were involved in the project this year were Parkwood Academy, Forge Valley School, King Edward VII Secondary School and Hinde House School.
There has been some extremely positive feedback on the back of this project from schools as well as the girls who are looking to continue their running clubs in school and want to know when the next event is coming up that they can get involved in.
