Febraury half term brought the opportunity for schools to send a number of pupils deemed to be gifted and talented in sport, or their chosen sport, to a day of activity held at Forge Valley School, in partnership with Elite Sport Development.
The camp included a number of workshops for the pupils who looked at their performance and were tested against key attributes of an athlete, similar to what professional raining programmes and scholarships would offer. As well as this the pupils from Arches SSP schools undertook a physical training session to develop their agility, balance and coordination and heard an inspiration talk from ex Olympic Judo athlete Sophie Cox who showed off her medals and explained the next steps the students had to undertake to become the best that they can be.
The pupils have received a letter with log in details where they can see the results of their athlete testing and also has hints and tips on how to improve certain aspects of their fitness. We believe that by showcasing this to the pupils at 11 or 12 years old can have a hge impact on how they apply their selves to training and their particular sports going forward.
We hope to see of a few of them making professional sports or representing Great Britain in the very near future.
