The Arches SSP have this year added a number of events and competitions to our calendar that are targeted at pupils with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities. These pupils may not always get the chance to excel in sport or to represent their school in a sporting capacity and we feel that it should be every child's right to do these things where possible.
Through our partnership with SIV we offered a number of schools the opportunity to bring pupils with additional needs to Ice Sheffield to learn the sport of Curling on the ice and then to put their newly found skills in to practice in a bit of a competition. All the pupils from every school improved across the event and there were some fantastic efforts as the competition aspect of the event took place.
Although a few slips on the ice the pupils represented their schools fantastically and were a pleasure to work with throughout the morning. The pupils then were given the chance at lunchtime to watch the Sheffield Steelers Ice Hockey Team train which was a fantastic opportunity, as they were preparing for a fixture later in the week.
