This academic year the 4 School Games Organisers and SSP/ Networks across the city are advocating a focus for schools each half term looking at developing the Active 30 minutes target for all pupils each day, which schools should be aiming for throughout the academic year. We will put a focus theme each half term where we would like to share good practice of what is happening via social media and also via email to everyone so that ideas can be shared. We have asked that as many schools as possible engage with this across Sheffield. Our agreed focus for each half term will be as follows:
Autumn 2- Active Lessons- Using the whole curriculum to achieve 30 Active Minutes per day
Spring 1- Active Schools Planner- Ideas and recording
Spring 2- Active Travel to School
Summer 1- Healthy Schools Rating System
Summer 2- Sheffield Move More Month and National School Sports Week- Including the Sheffield Schools Move It Day!
With regards to next half term we would like to challenge Sheffield Schools to showcase how they are using physical activity across the curriculum in other lessons and how they are using time in the classroom to get active and to enhance learning in various different subjects. Many of you saw the Active Maths (Maths of the Day) discussions at the Conference this year and there are some free resources on their website for how this can be achieved in Numeracy https://www.mathsoftheday.org.uk. We want to see this taking place using Twitter and #SheffieldSchoolsActive or email us any photos and a brief description of what your school have been doing.
