The Sheffield Eagles inspire Sheffield Pupils to give Rugby a Try

Throughout Spring Term Oliver Davies (First team Sheffield Eagles player and qualified coach) has been working with 20 Primary Schools across the city to provide pupils with an introduction to Tag Rugby. A number of classes across several targeted schools have been provided with the opportunity to engage in a new and different activity inspired by the Sheffield Eagles.

Oliver has also showcased the club’s success at winning the 1875 Cup Trophy at Wembley last year and has taken the trophy on a tour of schools to help further inspire the pupils. School pupils have been provided links to be able to continue their participation in Rugby League at local sports clubs Sheffield Hawks (Hillsborough/ Parsons Cross area), Sheffield Forgers (Handsworth/ Westfield area) and the Sheffield Warriors (S10 area).

The Sheffield Eagles look forward to continuing their work with more Sheffield Schools moving forward and the Sheffield School Sport Partnerships are excited to welcome their return to the city when the new stadium is complete at the Olympic Legacy Park. Sheffield will also play host to the Rugby League World Cup in 2021 which will see an England game and also a number of games at part of the Wheelchair Rugby aspect to the tournament. The Sheffield School Games Organisers have been successful in obtaining a bid to support with equipment linking to the World Cup, and will use this to offer Primary School Competitions throughout the summer term. Watch this space, get involved and give Rugby League a TRY!
