The Arches Partnership Academy of Young Leaders in Sport
The Archers Partnership Academy of Young Leaders in Sport, or PAYLS Academy, involves
students from 8 Secondary Schools across the city. Pupils from Year 10
are selected to join the Partnership Academy based on the quality of
their leadership skills. The selected candidates will work with support
from the School Sport Coordinator (SSCo) to run competitions in their
secondary school and their surrounding primary schools to increase the
quality of sporting opportunities.
The aim of the Partnership
Academy is to help build confidence and self esteem for all who take
part. The skills and experience that are acquired can greatly benefit
pupils in their future career choices by providing such varied and
exciting opportunities.
For the 2010/11 Academic Year, the Academy Leaders will also be
involved in supporting various citywide events and learning how to become event officials in order to run and manage these competitions. Events for this year will include The Arches Partnership Games, the countries largest SSP event, Primary Futsal Finals for the city and the Arches Tri Golf Tournament.
Pupils
will be invited to attend various sports leader training sessions
throughout the year working towards a nationally accredited
qualification from Sports Leaders UK, sports mentor training and Sports Hall Athletics Officals Award.
After completing a year of sports leadership in Y10, we then nominate 8 leaders to move up to the citywide Sheffield Academy of Young Leaders in Sport. The other Y11 leaders, remain with the Arches and act as second year mentors to the new Y10 students who arrive in September.
